Summary:
The plot centers around Erica, who, after a traumatic childhood event involving a car accident that claimed her father's life, becomes entwined with the wealthy Christ family. She is informally adopted by them, particularly forming a bond with their son, Trevor, while Michael, the eldest son, treats her indifferently. Years later, following a mysterious incident on Devil's Night, Erica is implicated in a situation that leads to Michael's friends being imprisoned, which sets the stage for revenge.
Megan appreciates the engaging dual timeline and Halloween elements but criticizes Erica for her perceived weakness and poor decisions, as well as Michael's abusive tendencies. While the romance is spicy, she feels the chemistry between the characters is lacking. Overall, she rates the book 3 out of 5 stars, noting its strong emotional impact despite her issues with the characters, and suggests it’s suitable for readers who enjoy dark romance but warns others to approach it with caution.
