A corrections officer faces charges after inappropriately touching two inmates at the Seneca County Correctional Facility, according to the Seneca County Sheriff's Office.
Rocco Bilancini, 47, of Seneca Falls "touched two incarcerated individuals in an inappropriate, unprofessional manner outside the scope of his duties" Aug. 4, the sheriff's office said in a release Friday.
Bilancini was arrested Thursday, according to the release, charged with two counts of forcible touching.
In a statement, Sheriff Melinda Marquart said Bilancini's arrest "does not reflect on the dedicated men and women of the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office who work hard every day to serve and protect our community with professionalism and integrity." She also said inmate safety is "paramount" and her staff will "continue to uphold the standards we expect of them."
"Any touching out the scope of an Officers official duties will not be tolerated. I understand the relationship between the Sheriff’s Office and our community is built on trust. This is why we immediately launched both criminal and internal investigations into these allegations. Accountability is essential to maintaining the trust of both our members and the public. This administration will continue to handle all matters appropriately, consistently, and with transparency.
Marquart said Bilancini is on unpaid leave and "is being dealt with in accordance with departmental policy, applicable laws, and collective bargaining agreements."
