After having a conversation with the Captain Holten, I'm hoping many of the issues uncovered will be taken care of. I have no respect for a corrections officer who talks to individuals the way Martinez spoke to me, more or less because we all know she is trusted with inmates stuck inside this jail. I attempt to de-escalate and remain calm but sometimes it fails. I wanted this woman to know that someone is watching and that her behavior was awful. I hope Martinez learned a lesson on this day. Continued follow up will be coming.
We must insist on an open, honest complaint process. There are many factors as to why someone may not be able to show up to a sheriff's office M-F during business hours, or may not wish to. FOIA forms, complaint forms and a good attitude should be available 24/7. It is vital in holding our public employees accountable and promoting their education.
