Corals of Mer Return Home After More Than a Century @QueenslandMuseum

A collection of 140 corals from Mer (Murray Island) in the Torres Strait has returned home to Queensland after more than a century overseas.

Led by Meriam Traditional Owners, with support from Queensland Museum, Torres Strait Regional Authority, Australian Institute of Marine Science and the Smithsonian, the return marks a powerful moment of cultural reconnection and care for Country.

Now housed at Queensland Museum Tropics in Townsville, the corals will be preserved in partnership with Meriam Traditional Owners for future generations.
