"Coral" is my latest single, based on the endangered coral reefs of the Caribbean and a painting by Rokita (my sister), for our upcoming Kickstarter and multimedia collaboration "Maps Of The Earth We Still Have." Through art and song we hope to bring awareness to some of the most endangered places that still yet survive.
Caribbean coral reefs are severely threatened by a combination of human-induced pressures, including climate change (causing coral bleaching and ocean acidification), overfishing, pollution from land-based sources, and destructive coastal development. All of these issues weaken the reefs, making them vulnerable to disease and physical damage from storms and invasive species, leading to a loss of over 80% of Caribbean coral cover since the 1970s.
