Talking about copyright best practices. What it means for a work to be copyrighted and how you can use another artists image the right way!
ARTISTS, please make sure you know the rules of copyright. I urge you to watch this full video, so you understand the laws of copyright before painting, posting, sharing, or entering ANY art you have done that is not from your own personal photo.
A photo or painting you see from someone else does NOT have to have a copyright symbol on it to make it theirs. Anything a person produces is automatically covered by the law of copyright, it does not have to be marked. You cannot just copy any photo or painting you see and call it yours.
When POSTING a painting from someone’s reference photo or tutorial, that you have permission to use, the FIRST SENTENCE of the post should be; “This is a painting that I did from ‘Artists Name’ tutorial/photo.” AND TAG THEM on the post. This follows the rules of copyright but also gives due credit to the original artist or teacher.
Art done from someone else’s photo, painting or tutorial should NEVER be entered into any competition or DISPLAYED ANYWHERE without their written permission. It also must be allowed in the rules of a competition, which in most cases it is not.
