In June 2019, a routine welfare check in Idaho Falls, Idaho, quickly escalated into a homicide investigation. Kaylynn Blue, 33, a reliable Walgreens employee, failed to show up for her shifts two days in a row. Concerned coworkers contacted her family, who requested that police check on her at the suburban home on Thayer Bridge Circle that she shared with her longtime boyfriend and fiancé, Philip Michael Schwab, 33, and his mother.
When officers arrived around 9 a.m. on June 24, Schwab answered the door and let them inside. Police noticed blood inside the residence and quickly realized it was more than a standard welfare check. Schwab was cooperative and eventually admitted he had hurt Blue. He directed officers to the backyard, where they found her body partially buried in a shallow grave in a flower garden her face and one foot still visible above the dirt.
