I am revisiting the woodland where we cut down the tree that we used for the "Can We Make A Chair In A Day With Handtools Only" film, and you will see that the tree stump now has five trees growing out of it. This is the principle of coppicing. By cutting the tree down we let more light onto the woodland floor, and that is good for plant and animal diversity. With the extra light more trees can grow...and that is exactly what has happened here.
