Digital technologies and big data have fundamentally altered economic relationships, and with them geoeconomics and geopolitics. This transformation has complicated East-West competition and revelries, as both power blocs are promoting their own domestic digital technologies to gain the upper hand.
The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and King’s College London’s Project for Peaceful Competition (PfPC) brought together a diverse group of experts to discuss these impacts and to consider prospects for governance to ensure this competition remains peaceful. In this video, Oliver Letwin, chair of the PfPC, and Rohinton P. Medhora, president of CIGI, provide an overview of the key issues this essay series covers, from the impacts of digital technology on geoeconomics to the important geopolitical and societal issues that require coordinated responses across jurisdictions to address platform governance and regulation.
