scoringarts.com — This excerpt comes from our November 5, 2022 event in which we began a study of the Superman Suite, by composer John Williams. Williams wrote this score for the first Superman movie (1978), which was in close proximity to the first Star Wars (1977), and although the two scores share some common characteristics, they are equally fascinating for how they diverge. The orchestral writing is masterful in each, but heads in a different direction: strong and heroic for Superman, and science fiction for Star Wars.
