What could be more ridiculously American than The United States protecting the entire world from aliens on July 4th? INDEPENDENCE DAY is the kind of movie that would become a hit in the 90s for the right reasons and would probably become a hit today for all the wrong ones.
Alas, Roland Emmerich's biggest success had to be included in our Summer of the (MTV) Bangers thanks to its win during the 1998 MTV Movie Awards, where Will Smith & Vivica Fox's reunion smooch won the Best Kiss trophy. The movie's fresh on the Tomatometer, so we'll be nitpicking it to death on the podcast's main feed!
