Clip from the 1924 German silent film, The Hands of Orlac (aka Orlac's Hände), starring classic film legend Conrad Veidt (The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, The Thief of Bagdad, Casablanca). Concert pianist Paul Orlac loses his hands in an accident and ends up with the manus* of a murderer (you might recall Peter Lorre was in a similar movie in 1935 called Mad Love). Notice the impressive visual effects, which silent film pioneered, that later got a bit sidelined with talkies until the 1950s. Also Conrad in this movie is the embodiment of that line from Sunset Boulevard: "We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!" :D
