Conor McGregor’s latest knee injury looks very different from the leg fracture he suffered previously.
Based on the mechanism alone, this appears to be a classic non-contact valgus loading injury, which is one of the most common ways an ACL is torn. A planted foot, the body’s momentum continuing forward, and the knee collapsing inward can place enormous stress on the ACL.
That said, it’s impossible to diagnose an ACL tear from video alone. He’ll need a physical examination and imaging to determine the exact injury.
The key takeaway is that the mechanism matters. Two injuries can occur in the same leg for completely different reasons.
