I literally cannot believe I finished this. It's a lot shorter than I hoped, and isn't as polished as I'd like, but it's been a really tough few weeks for me and I didn't have a lot of time or energy to edit, so I hope it's okay...
Anyway! Here is my boy, Connell! If you couldn't tell, I'm in my pirate era. When I saw the plot of the RP, I thought I'd give it a go, and I've really loved thinking up ideas and possible future plots for him, so why not?
Name: Connell Roberts
Age: 26
Home: Does he even have one other than the ocean?
Occupation: "Sailor" (aka pirate)
NOTES:
- Connell is a pirate (obviously). He’s the quartermaster on Lawrence’s (aka John Smith) ship, and he's pretty damn competent at his job. The crew tend to focus on attacking merchant vessels, but they have no qualms about arguing with other pirate ships as well - which is what happened with John Rolfe's character (RIP). NOTE: The John Rolfe in the video is not the judge character, Con obviously has not killed him off lol
- Why was Con showing the Ace of Spades at the beginning so important? Well, Connell's crew is known for inviting traitors to an innocent card game and then showing them their trademark 'Ace of Spades' whenever the end is near - so much so that their ship is actually named after the card. This was actually something pirates used to do in the 18th century, kind of like the black spot. So, basically, John Rolfe was destined to die as soon as he saw it. Maybe don't screw them over next time.
- Because most people are unlikely to see pirates in action unless they're seafarers, and because Connell is always disguised when in "pirate mode" in public, this allows him a certain amount of freedom to use his own name and walk around places (and enter the season!) without being recognised or arrested. Anyone not in the know about the crew's career just thinks they're regular old sailors.
- Recently, Con’s found himself becoming more and more disillusioned with being a pirate. He got into it young, and hasn’t really had a chance to actually be anything but a pirate for most of his life. Not too long ago, his leg got injured in a raid, and even though it’s mostly healed, he’s not as quick as he used to be, and there’s still pain there. He always kind of assumed he’d live and die as a pirate, but now that the dying has become more of a reality… he’s not sure he wants to.
- The ship was caught in a storm just outside Haven. They managed to dock, but the ship’s pretty beaten up and won’t be able to sail for oh, I don’t know, the length of the season 👀
- Connell doesn’t really know why he’s entering the season. Of course, there’s the opportunity to pick a few rich people’s pockets (which is the excuse he gives his crewmates), and maybe find a partner along the way who’s willing to join him back on board. But, once he gets a taste of a different life and the chance to finally just be Connell… will he want to go back to where he was before?
- The person he bumps into at the end is Desdemona from @annelabyrinth2243 's audition! Connell's first interaction as "himself" and he's already socially awkward, nice.
