Not every uncomfortable moment needs to be fixed.
When someone is stressed, we often want to make things easier. So we rush in, soften what we say, and reassure them.
Sometimes that care is needed.
Other times, we remove the lesson along with the discomfort.
A parent may know their child needs a boundary or a challenge, then back away because they don’t want to be disliked.
Adults do this with each other too.
We call it empathy.
We call it keeping the peace.
Sometimes we care more about being liked than doing what care requires.
Care is not measured by how little discomfort we create.
Sometimes it is measured by whether we are willing to risk being disliked in order to say what needs to be said.
Some discomfort is trying to teach us something.
And sometimes caring for someone means letting it.
Joel and Antonia explore these patterns through live coaching.
