CONFLICT –Meat Means Murder– (1983)
Dos años antes de que The Smiths lanzara "Meat is Murder", la banda británica de anarco-punk Conflict lanzó el clásico "Meat Means Murder" (Carne Significa Asesinato), que es una crítica directa al consumo de carne y la explotación animal. La canción forma parte del disco “It's Time to See Who's Who”, lanzado en Londres en marzo de 1983, y que en ese momento se convirtió en un referente del movimiento de liberación animal en Inglaterra.
En una entrevista con Pete Woods, de Ave Noctum, publicada el 5 de diciembre de 2013, el vocalista y miembro fundador de Conflict, Colin Jerwood, dijo que al principio la idea era simplemente formar una banda sin pretensiones. Sin embargo, con el tiempo, se sorprendieron por el impacto que sus canciones tuvieron entre los activistas por los derechos de los animales. En especial en el ALF. “En realidad, nunca imaginé que estas palabras que escribí tendrían tal impacto e inspirarían a tanta gente”, dijo.
