Ever notice how threat assessment seems simple when you're new to Commander?

Big creature? Kill it.

Player with the most life? Attack them.

Easy.

That's the Dunning-Kruger Effect: the tendency to overestimate our abilities because we don't yet know what we're missing.

As players gain experience, they start noticing things like mana efficiency, resource generation, political positioning, and hidden information. The game becomes more complicated, not less.

That's why the strongest players are often the least certain. They understand just how many variables exist.

In this episode of MTG Illusions, we're exploring why confidence and competence aren't always the same thing at the Commander table.

How often do you look back at an old threat assessment and realize you got it completely wrong?
