This video is about the Confederate Breastworks Interpretive Trail located on Shenandoah Mountain near the town of McDowell along route 250 Virginia. A battle was fought here in the Spring of 1862 to prevent the Union army from entering the Shenandoah Valley and taking Stanton near the approaches of Richmond from the west. There is an interpretive trail with letters written by a confederate solider in April 1862. You can read a first hand account about how miserable it was for these soldiers to build trenches and hold a mountain position at the close of winter.
The whole site is situated in the Washington National Forest which is a reason on its own to visit this historical and beautiful place.
