If you are planning to use compressed air in emergencies to keep wildlife or other dogs away from you and your dog I suggest teaching your dog that the sound is nothing to be worried about. You can condition the sound to create a positive emotional response but you can also turn it into a cue for example a recall or a cue to stay close to you until you tell them what to do next. If you only use the compressed air in emergency situations without conditioning your dog to be confident around it, you might potentially scare your own dog in an attempt to scare away a coyote or loose dog.
I like to start the conditioning process with Whipped Cream!
