Canadian PSA used to inform younger audiences that some things they see on television, like a tiny hippo mostly convincingly green-screened onto the tiles of an ordinary household, are too good to be true. British audiences might remember this as an ad for Media Smart, who tacked on an animated character at the end.

A sequel was commissioned and released online in 2019 by MediaSmarts - not affiliated with the aforementioned British organisation - presenting house hippos as a legitimate problem in the digital age, but in the wake of generative AI, deepfaking and other alarming deceptions flooding the internet at an alarming rate 25 years after this PSA first radicalised the country, maybe it is time to unleash the hippos yet again, so that maybe Canada will stop believing in them for good. Directed by Tim Hamilton.
