Having a good concealed carry gun, like Glock 19, is a must. Beginners have many options for concealed carry (CCW) guns. But the Glock 19, I have found, works best for concealed carry. Now you have the Glock MOS versions with RMR cuts already in the slide. Mine are Gen 3 Glock 19's so I had t have the RMR slots milled out my Jagerwerks. For the best concealed carry gun, you want reliabiliy. When installing new parts, upgrading or modifying your gun, always think reliability. Do not swap a barrel that will 95% of the time shoot awesome, but has issue with your carry ammo. You are depending your life on this concealed carry gun, act like it!
Beginners should, in my opinion, get their gun and just get used to it. Understand how to change the magazine, field strip it, how to get the proper grip on it. All of that before searching for a holster. Go to the range and shoot it, get comfortable with it before you think about holstering it. Can you load up the pistol, shoot rounds, and reload without issue? Is your finger off the trigger and at all times? If it is not, do not remotely think about moving to a holster. These are things you have to think about and do when you get a concealed carry gun.
If you get something other than a Glock 19, are their holster options? Think of that before purchasing something that is not standard in the holster game. While I might have things done to my concealed carry gun, it was not always like that. When I began, I had a standard Glock 19. The first thing I had done was Heinie Straight Eight sights and stippling. I then moved to a different barrel. Always testing and shooting my carry ammo to verify each part change did not affect reliability. I then moved to an Trijicon RMR and slide work and a Agency Arms magwell and trigger. Do not do anything to your gun until you can shoot it well stock! You do not "need" anything beside a sight upgrade from a stock Glock in my opinion.
