Hey Exiles. Some of you might be wondering why Crom isn't an Avatar in Conan Exiles. Crom is the god of the Cimmerians, Conan's people. So why isn't Crom included?
By not including Crom, the developers have actually made a good decision though, and have stayed true to the lore of the Conan Universe.
To make this point, I'd like to highlight for you a conversation between Conan and the pirate queen Belit from Queen of the Black Coast, written by Robert E. Howard, the creator of Conan.
Belit and Conan are sitting together one night when she asks him "Conan, do you fear the gods?"
"I would not tread on their shadow," answered the Barbarian conservatively. "Some gods are strong to harm, others, to aid; at least say their priests. Mitra of the Hyborians must be a strong god because his people have builded their cities over the world. But even the Hyborians fear Set."
Belit asked, "What of your own gods? I have never heard you call on them."
"Their chief is Crom," said Conan. "He dwells on a great mountain. What use to call on him? Little he cares if men live or die. Better to be silent than to call his attention to you; he will send you dooms, not fortune! He is grim and loveless, but at birth he breathes power to strive and slay into a man's soul. What else shall men ask of the gods?"
This explains the Cimmerian attitude to Crom and therefore why there are no altars to Crom. Conan does his best to leave the gods alone. He fears no man, but has a barbarian's fear of the supernatural. If Conan is backed into a corner, though, he will always fight-- even against a god.
