When you come out of complex trauma, you often develop ways of relating that helped you survive.
Those patterns may have protected you at one time, but as you get older, they may start creating problems in your relationships, your boundaries, or your sense of self.
That’s why it matters to understand where your relationship style came from. Not to blame yourself, but to recognize what you learned in a family system that may not have been healthy.
Dysfunctional doesn’t mean imperfect. Every family has pain and problems. The opposite of dysfunctional isn’t perfect, it’s functional.
You may not have chosen the patterns you learned, but with the right support, you can begin to understand them, work with them, and heal.
