People do weird things for attention. That aspect of humanity is only getting worse. But believe it or not, people have been doing dumb shtuff for a long while now. All throughout history people have been doing things because other people were doing those same things and they thought those things were pretty neat.
But think about it, that's how inventions and cultures are created. Someone probably saw someone blow musical notes through a crude flute at some point, and now we have Cool Ranch Doritos. That's how that works, right? Anyway, here's a bunch of the dumb stuff people did that, luckily, isn't really around anymore.
