Bill Johnson talks about community and why connection and your relationships matter to God. As the Body of Christ it is vital that we are connected with the other members. Building community is not always easy, and often the times we least want to be around people is when we need it the most. Fellowship is what we typically do when it’s most convenient, but the writer of Hebrews invites us a step further, calling us to sacrifice for the sake of connection. It’s not a sacrifice until it costs us. The reason that community is so important is that Christ is revealed through us coming together as one, and it is one of the main ways in which He keeps us healthy and growing. Western culture has celebrated and promoted individualism, and while it’s important that each of us has a personal relationship with God, we have not always stewarded well His heart for us to become one as His body.
