Community Connections October 20th 2022.
We were joined by team members of the Head & Neck Cancer Survivorship Program at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
Learn about the amazing work they are doing to address the many facets patient's face throughout their entire head & neck cancer journey - from treatment options, to physical changes, to the emotional impact of the disease.
They also presented on the awareness of typical expected side effects, and recommendations to help manage dry mouth, trismus, taste changes and dysphagia, as well as some eating & swallowing warm-ups that you can try at home.
Order of presentations:
1. Dr. Jolie Ringash, Radiation Oncologist: Introduction to HNC Survivorship programme.
2. Melanie Woodside, Clinical Nurse Specialist: Review common side effects. Dry mouth and products to help manage this.
3. Michele Davies, Registered Dietitian: Review tips for managing taste changes and dry mouth
4. Andrea Gomes, Speech Language Pathologist : Difficulty swallowing and mouth opening exercises. Meal time routine.
5. Melanie Woodside: Review difficulty experienced and tips for Social Eating.
