The Hamilton West Side team finally met its match Saturday after an incredible run through the Little League World Series, losing to Nevada's team 12-2 by mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Despite the loss, hundreds came out to support the team at watch parties across Hamilton Saturday afternoon.
"Smiles everywhere. There's a lot of folks around here that came to the brewery today that played on West Side Little League. Their kids are playing; their grandkids are playing," said Jim Goodman, who co-owns Municipal Brew Works.
Hamilton has spent the entire week occupied with the Little League World Series. Even Reds Hall-of-Famer Jose Rijo made an appearance at Shooters Sports Grill.
Goodman brought a large screen onto his patio for several games. His son plays in the West Side program, and he says the dedication shown on the national stage is the same dedication they play with at home.
"Six games in seven days. Major League don't even do that, so these kids showed a lot of heart, a lot of guts, and I tip my cap to it," he said.
The last time an Ohio team made it to the Little League Championship, it was also Hamilton West Side in 2021, when they fell to Michigan. The team will play for third place Sunday morning against the international runners-up from Japan. That game starts at 10 a.m.
