Learn how video artist Jennifer West experiments with 16mm film and create your own collaged, moving images by exploring shape, texture, layering, photography and video recording techniques such as stop motion animation and time lapse! Teaching Artist: Billie Rae Vinson
Materials: Recycled collage materials (plastics, papers, fabrics, etc.), scissors, thick white paper ( cardstock or the back of a cereal box), smartphone with stop motion app or time lapse feature, a way to suspend your camera above your artwork (eg. you could use a gooseneck phone holder, a selfie stick balanced on something, or make your own stand using two tall containers or boxes of the same height and a long ruler), glue (optional)

Hello! ¡Hola! Discover a whole new world of artistic possibility as you improvise, create, and learn about various artists in the museum’s permanent collection! Communities Create LA! includes live creative art workshops, providing the whole family with opportunities to experiment together through collage, drawing, mixed media, and other non-traditional techniques. All workshops use materials easily found at home and are offered in both English and Spanish!
Communities Create LA! is made possible through the Anna H. Bing Children’s Art Endowment Fund. Additional support is provided by the Edward A. and Ai O. Shay Family Foundation.
LACMA-Ed Online programs are supported by the Dwight Stuart Youth Fund, The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation, Edison International, and the Ducommun and Gross Family Foundation.
