Commonwealth and the language challenge: identity, governance and global partnerships

The Symposium is part of the Seminar and Symposium series Language Policies/Practice in the Commonwealth at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies. The series examines issues of language policy and/or practice in the Commonwealth. The Seminars (Feb-June 2010; see page 2) focused on providing an overview of the situation in different areas of Commonwealth, both the ‘new’ and the ‘old’ Commonwealth, by highlighting evolving/ current policies and practice in a range of areas including the literary use of language. The Symposium will highlight current policies and practice in a range of areas of language use that have a local as well as pan-Commonwealth significance in policy and practice. The presentations, discussions and the exhibition at the Symposium will be of interest to attendees who have specialist interest in the Commonwealth and also to those with academic and/or general interest in areas such as linguistics, literature, culture and society in the Commonwealth and beyond.
