Geek With Social Skills | Commodore PET Rescue and Restoration: CBM Model 2001-16 Computer @geekwithsocialskills | Uploaded January 2020 | Updated October 2024, 3 hours ago.
I rescued this 1978 Commodore PET model 2001-16 N computer from a local area estate sale. It came with the original manuals and a Commodore branded IEEE-488 disk drive interface cable.
In this video I do a smoke test of the CBM PET 2001, and then do a deep cleaning of the computer case inside and out. I also wash the motherboard and make it look brand new. There will be a follow up video where I restore the keyboard for this machine as well.
Some of the back story about the machine: The previous owner passed away in 2003 and was the original owner since purchasing it new. Apparently he was an electrical engineer for a power plant and used this PET 2001 computer daily until he retired.
The machine had been sitting since his passing in 2003 and recently his wife went into a senior living place (2016) and the grandson was tasked with running the estate sale in late 2019. I was lucky to find this machine, especially locally to avoid expensive shipping costs and for a fair price.
Be sure to check out Part 2 of this Commodore PET 2002-N where I repair the keyboard and upgrade the memory from 16 KB to 32 KB and BASIC ROM.
