Pitchfork Ranch, one of the great living ranches of the American West.
Set beneath the Absaroka Mountains outside Meeteetse, Wyoming, the Pitchfork Ranch spans over 96,000 acres of deeded, leased, and permitted lands- a landscape where cattle still graze open country, cutthroat trout still rise in cold freestone rivers, and elk migrate through the same valleys they have for generations.
Established in 1878, the Pitchfork is not a recreated version of the West. It is the real thing.
For nearly 150 years, this ranch has shaped the culture and imagery of the American cowboy. Charles Belden captured iconic photographs of ranch life here that appeared in Life and National Geographic, helping define how the world viewed the West. Years later, the ranch became the backdrop for legendary Marlboro campaigns- not because it looked authentic, but because it was authentic.
Today, the Pitchfork remains a fully operational cattle ranch supporting approximately 1,300 mother cows year-round, balanced with exceptional wildlife habitat, world-class fishing, and vast backcountry recreation.
The Greybull River winds through the ranch beneath towering peaks. Thousands of elk winter in the basin. Mule deer, moose, antelope, black bear, wild turkeys, and native trout thrive across this landscape.
