On 17 September, the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, in partnership with Palantir Technologies, was delighted to host General (Ret) Charles A. Flynn, former commanding general of US Army Pacific, for a conversation on military strategy, technology and trust in the Indo-Pacific.
Moderated by ASPI’s Director of Defence Strategy, Mike Hughes AIM, the discussion considered the Indo-Pacific as the defining theatre of the century, where military posture, alliances and technological integration are shaping strategic dynamics. Drawing on his leadership of US Army Pacific, General Flynn discussed the role of land forces in a maritime region, the critical importance of interoperability among allies and partners, and the ways in which states can generate and apply credible military power to deter coercion.
The conversation also highlighted technology as a key strategic enabler—spanning AI, data and emerging capabilities—and emphasised trust as a vital force multiplier, reinforced by resilient networks across allied and partner nations.
