Prince of Persia is a cinematic platformer designed and implemented by Jordan Mechner and published by Broderbund for the Apple II in 1989. The Amiga and MS-DOS version came out in 1990.
Much like Karateka, Mechners first game, Prince of Persia used rotoscoping for its fluid and realistic animation. For this process, Mechner used as reference for the characters movements videos of his brother doing acrobatic stunts in white clothes and swashbuckler films such as The Adventures of Robin Hood.
Taking place in ancient Persia, players control an unnamed protagonist who must venture through a series of dungeons to defeat the Grand Vizier Jaffar and save an imprisoned princess.
The main objective of the player is to lead the unnamed protagonist out of dungeons and into a tower before time runs out. This cannot be done without bypassing traps and fighting hostile swordsmen. The game consists of twelve levels (though some console versions have more). However, a game session may be saved and resumed at a later time only after level 2.
The player has a health indicator that consists of a series of small red triangles. The player starts with three. Each time the protagonist is damaged (cut by sword, fallen from two floors of heights or hit by a falling rock), the player loses one of these indicators. There are small jars containing potions of several colours and sizes. The red potions scattered throughout the game restore one health indicator. The blue potions are poisonous, and they take one life indicator as damage. There are also large jars of red potion that increase the maximum number of health indicators by one, and large jars of green potion that grants a temporarily ability to hover. If the players health is reduced to zero, the protagonist dies. Subsequently, the game is restarted from the beginning of the stage in which the protagonist died but the timer will not reset to that point, effectively constituting a time penalty. There is no counter for the number of lives; but if time runs out, the princess will be gone and the game will be over.
Despite a positive critical reception, Prince of Persia was initially a commercial failure in North America, where it had sold only 7,000 units each on the Apple II and IBM PC by July 1990. It was when the game was released in Japan and Europe that year that it became a commercial success. In July 1990, the NEC PC-9801 version sold 10,000 units as soon as it was released in Japan. It was then ported to various different home computers and video game consoles, eventually selling 2 million units worldwide by the time its sequel Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame (1993) was in production, and more than 2 million copies by 1999.

This demo can be played on steam. The game is currently in early access.
This project is currently being developed by Paul Cuisset who was the creator / game director for the original Darkstone.
Darkstone: Restoration is an attempt to bring back the classic Darkstone to modern systems. It is not a remake but adds some graphical improvements and quality of life features to the game and also allows you to play in so called Legacy mode which tries to imitate the original experience if you dont like the new stuff.
Keep in mind that not all things are final and might be changed later.
Here is a small list of features included in the demo:
-Graphic improvements such as new lighting and shadows, grass, bump mapping, new fog of war and overhauled magic and combat effects.
-New ambience and sounds for environment and enemies. I think its a good idea but currently im not a big fan of some of the sounds being used.
-Although a little buggy right now you can scale your interface manually by holding Ctrl and Numpad-/Numpad+.
-Automatic gold pickup when you get close to it.
-Gold can now stack over 10k but I dont know the new stack limit.
-An auto sort feature for your inventory
-A new spell hotbar where you can add spells and skills to quickly use or cast without changing your active spell first.
-You can now give movement and attack orders to your companion without switching characters by holding the Alt key. It also switches to your companions hotbar so you can activate their skills, seems like this only works with the mouse though.
-Holding down Ctrl not only changes your movement speed but now also shows you items dropped on the ground so you can quickly pick them up without searching with your mouse cursor.
-A new stash feature at the bank which can be expanded with gold.
-Your belt can now hold 10 potions of each type without using inventory space.

Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold is a first-person shooter game made by JAM Productions and published by Apogee Software. It was released in 1993.
The story is set in the year 2140. Robert Wills Stone III, also known as Blake Stone, is an agent of the British Intelligence, recruited after a highly successful career in the British Royal Navy.
His first major case is to investigate and eliminate the threat of Dr. Pyrus Goldfire, a brilliant scientist in the field of genetics and biology, known for his outright disrespect of professional ethics. Backed by his own organisation, STAR, Dr. Goldfire plans to conquer Earth and enslave humanity using an army of specially trained human conscripts, modified alien species, and a host of genetically-engineered mutants. Agent Stone is sent on a mission to knock out six crucial STAR installations and destroy Goldfires army before it can assault the Earth.
The gameplay of Aliens of Gold is very similar to Wolfenstein 3D. Playable areas are single-leveled, with orthogonal walls and textured floors and ceilings and have a wide variety of human, mutant and alien enemies — the latter two are sometimes dormant in canisters and on work tables — and frequent encounters and fights with Dr. Goldfire. Level features include locked doors that can be opened by four colors of access cards — gold, green, yellow and blue — plus red access cards to enter new floors; an auto-mapping system; food dispensers that exchange tokens for healing items; friendly interactive Informants who are distinguishable from the Bio-Techs by what they say and give information, ammunition and tokens; one-way doors; secret rooms accessible through pushable wall blocks; and teleporters that instantly take the player into another location within the level, or, in one instance, to one of the episodes secret levels. Five weapons are available, consisting of a silent pistol with infinite ammo, three hitscan guns and a grenade launcher type gun.
In every level the player can boost points for score by destroying all enemies, collecting all points and keeping all Informants alive, which increases the three respective statuses. Total Points is affected by both the enemies destroyed and the treasure collected. The all Informants alive bonus can only be obtained if all informants survive after the first two bonuses are obtained. Floor rating is affected by the other three statuses. Mission rating is affected by the overall statuses from floors 1 to 9. Killing Informants decreases both Floor and Mission Rating.
The game consists of six episodes, each with 11 levels — nine regular and two secret. A main elevator goes through levels 1 through 10 and is the only means of moving between the levels. The goal of each level from 1 through 8 is to secure a red keycard and use it to unlock the next floor. The elimination of all enemies and the collection of all treasure on the current floor are optional objectives which provide bonuses upon completion. (Plasma alien enemies, which spawn repeatedly from electrical outlets, do not count towards the kill ratio.) Blake Stone can take the elevator back down to previous levels to find missed items or kill any remaining enemies.
On level 9 of each episode, defeating a stronger version of Dr. Goldfire forces him to drop a gold keycard. The key is used to unlock the way to the boss, which holds another gold keycard for the levels exit — the episodes end. Each episode features two secret levels. One of them, floor 0, can be accessed through a teleport hidden somewhere within the same episode. The other is floor 10, directly accessible through the main elevator. A red keycard is required to enter, and is usually hidden on floor 9. Secret levels do not have special objectives; their only purpose is to boost the players score.

Dune 2000 is a real-time strategy video game developed by Intelligent Games and published by Westwood Studios. It was released in 1998.
It is a partial remake of Dune II, which is loosely based on Frank Herberts Dune universe.
The player commands of one of three Houses and must fight for control of the spice mélange on the planet Arrakis. The player harvests spice for solaris, the in-game currency, and uses the solaris to make units to supply their forces. Dune 2000 features an interface and gameplay similar to Command & Conquer: Red Alert, where unlike in Dune II, the player can control more than one unit at a time.
Like most real-time strategy games, the game map initially starts with a black fog of war covering the entire map, with an exception to units line of sight. As the units explore the map, the fog is removed for the duration of the mission, allowing the player to observe activity in those regions even if they do not have any units with line of sight to them. Like Dune II, the player may construct concrete before placing buildings. In Dune II, all buildings would deteriorate regardless, but the concrete foundations slowed the process. However, in Dune 2000, the buildings do not deteriorate over time when built in their entirety on concrete.
Although each house has many common units, such as infantry, Wind Traps, and Mobile Construction Vehicles, each House also has its own set of units, such as the Atreides Sonic Tank, the Ordos Deviator and the Harkonnen Devastator. Houses Harkonnen and Atreides share the Trike, while House Ordos has an upgraded version, the Raider. Like many games of the Westwood franchise, a player can gain access to other Houses special units by capturing an enemy building that can manufacture the desired units. House Ordos can obtain the Missile Tank by ordering it from the Starport when it would otherwise be inaccessible. After patch 1.06, the Harkonnen can eventually train the Sardaukar, which are soldier-fanatics loyal to the Corrino Emperor.

Gobliiins is a puzzle game made and published by Coktel Vision. It was released in 1991.
The unique visual look of the series and its characters was contributed by Pierre Gilhodes, a French artist who gave his famous signature style to many of Coktel Visions other games, including Woodruff and the Schnibble of Azimuth.
The games mix elements of adventure and puzzle gaming. In essence, the player must find the solution to each area (or level), consisting of one or more screens, in order to progress to the next.
An original aspect of the series is that the player usually controls multiple goblins as player characters, each of whom has a unique set of abilities (the number of letter is in the word Goblin of the title indicates the number of characters that the player may control). The player may only control one character at a time but, depending on the specific scene, may switch characters at will. The original Gobliiins features a shared health system for all three characters, which meant that leaving characters in the wrong place could be detrimental, though this feature is not implemented in the sequels.
All games are available in CD format. The first three include voices instead of the goblinish talk that featured on the floppy disk versions. The CD version also censors the nudity featured in the original game.
In Gobliiins the player controls a team of three different goblins each with a unique skill. The first goblin, Asgard (BoBo in the US release), is a warrior who is more brawn than brain, and whose skill is punching, causing various things to break or fall over. He is also the only one who can climb other objects than stairs and ladders. The second goblin, Ignatius (US: Hooter), is a magician who can zap things with magic with a wide variety of usually unexpected effects, which include objects moving, growing, or coming alive. The third, Oups (US: Dwayne), is a technician and is the only one of the three that can pick up and use items.
The story follows the three goblins as they attempt to aid their king, who has gone insane under mysterious circumstances. They meet with the wizard Niak, who informs them he can cure the kings madness if they bring him three items. However, upon obtaining the items, Niak is revealed to be the one behind the kings insanity and he manipulated the goblins into performing his bidding. The goblins manage to escape from Niaks lair, save the king by destroying the voodoo doll used to drive him insane, and defeat Niak while he is creating deadly potions.
The game is linear and consists of 22 levels, each of which occupies a single screen. The puzzles on each level must be successfully solved in order to progress to the next.
Several actions may harm the goblin involved, including leaving them in an unsafe place, using incorrect items, or interacting with items with the wrong characters, thus reducing their shared life meter. When the meter runs out, the game ends in defeat (though all levels can be completed without loss of life).

Lemmings Paintball is and action/puzzle game made by Visual Science and published by Psygnosis. It was released in 1996.
Unlike most of the Lemmings games, it does not use a side-scrolling perspective but instead an isometric view of the levels. The gameplay is also very different from other Lemmings games, focusing on splattering enemies with paint from a gun. The levels contain various puzzles including moving platforms, lemming catapults, and trampolines.
The goal is to capture all the flags in the map which can range from 1 to 4 flags. If you are given more lemmings than flags you can lose lemmings and still reach your goal. But if you have to capture 4 flags in one map then everyone has to survive to win.

The Feeble Files is a point & click adventure game made and published by Adventure Soft. It was released in 1997.
The Feeble Files is loosely based on elements of the dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell which describes a government and society similar to Feebles and features a protagonist with similar ambitions as Feebles.
The game is a comedic science fiction title in which players assume the role of Feeble, an alien tasked with burning crop circles across the galaxy. Adventure Soft began development of the game after seeking different subject matter to their Simon the Sorcerer series of adventure games. The studio pivoted to 3D computer graphics, creating animations using Silicon Graphics hardware. Drawing from science fiction literature and television as inspiration, the studio hired Red Dwarf actor Robert Llewelyn to provide voice acting for the titular protagonist.
For interaction the game uses a point & click navigation system synonymous with adventure games. The player is in control of the main character, Feeble, and must solve various puzzles to advance through the game and complete his quest. The player later gets the opportunity to use SAM, a robot with a penchant for genocide, to solve certain puzzles in the game. When using SAM the players cursor changes and different options are available to interact with objects in the environment, adding more depth to the gameplay.
At one point during the game the player must win several arcade games in order to advance, but these games use completely different gameplay methods and often proved to be difficult for players. In the end Adventure Soft released a saved game just after the arcade section to allow people to carry on playing.
The story and puzzles within the game are all of a linear nature.
The Feeble Files was released in Europe in 1997. A Macintosh-only United States release was published by MacPlay in 2002. Simon stated that the game was not a commercial success, and it and the commercial failure of its successor Simon the Sorcerer 3D exhausted the companys internal funding. In 2006, the game was included as part of the open-source program ScummVM, allowing users to play the game on various systems. The game was remastered and rereleased on GOG.com in 2008.

Oddworld: Abes Oddysee is a puzzle / cinematic platformer game made by Oddworld Inhabitants and published by GT Interactive. It was released in 1997.
The game centers on the eponymous Abe, a meek Mudokon slave at the RuptureFarms meat processing factory. When he discovers that he and his fellow Mudokons are to be slaughtered to make a new product, Abe decides to escape and liberate as many enslaved Mudokons as he can. The player assumes the role of Abe as he attempts a perilous quest to emancipate his downtrodden people.
Abes Oddysee is a two-dimensional platform game in which players take control of the character Abe to travel across separate screens solving puzzles, navigating obstacles, and avoiding enemies. Abe can die in a variety of ways, such as being attacked by an enemy, touching a hazardous obstacle, falling from too great a height or into a bottomless pit. If Abe dies, he will respawn at the last checkpoint. As well as jumping to navigate areas and crouching to roll under obstacles, Abe can break into a run to jump over large gaps or escape enemies, or tiptoe to avoid disturbing enemies, adding a stealth element to the game. Abe can use throwable objects such as meat, rocks or grenades to bypass enemies or destroy obstacles, though grenades have a timer and will blast Abe into pieces if the throw button is held too long.
Abe has the ability to telepathically control Sligs, a type of enemy non-player character, but can only use this in safe areas; in most areas, flying orbs, known as chant suppressors, will stop Abe from using his telepathy by zapping him. Once Abe successfully possesses a Slig, he can control their movements to attack other enemies, use gamespeak that can only be used by Sligs, activate mechanisms too dangerous for Abe, and destroy the Slig when he no longer needs it. Abes body is immobile and vulnerable while possessing another character, and if his host is killed, control will return to Abe.
Along the way, the player encounters other Mudokons that he can rescue. By holding down the GameSpeak button and pressing various commands, Abe can command them to follow him, stay put, and activate mechanisms, as well as praise or scold them. Sometimes Abe will have to go through certain procedures to persuade a certain Mudokon, such as responding to whistles. Mudokons can be rescued by safely leading them past traps and enemies to bird portals, which can be activated by chanting. If the player rescues at least 50 Mudokons (of the possible 99) during the course of the game, the Mudokons rescue Abe in the good ending of the game.
Oddworld: Abes Oddysee was widely acclaimed for having innovative gameplay, good art direction and engaging cutscenes; however, its difficult learning curve and system of only saving at checkpoints received criticism. By December 2012, the game sold 3.5 million copies worldwide, thus making it one of the best-selling PlayStation video games of all time. It was the first game in the planned five-part Oddworld series, which includes the direct sequels Abes Exoddus (1998), Munchs Oddysee (2001) and Strangers Wrath (2005). A remake of the game, titled Oddworld: New n Tasty!, was developed by Just Add Water and released in 2014.

7th Legion is a Real-time strategy game for developed by Vision and Epic MegaGames and published by MicroProse. It was released in 1997.
The game consists of two single-player campaigns and supports multiplayer online games.
The game is styled as a standard RTS game. Players assume the role of a commander of either the Chosen or those that were left behind, with the overall objective being to annihilate the other faction. To do so, the player have to amass funds to construct various buildings and war-machines, while recruiting foot soldiers to combat the enemy. Each player can collect special power-ups that would be found in boxes distributed across the map. These would provide bonuses to the force who collected the box. These bonuses include making the players forces invisible to the enemy or increasing overall unit strength. Players could also take advantage of special power cards. These cards have certain effects on events in-game; for example, some cards damage enemy troops, while others cause mechanical troops to malfunction.
The conflict in 7th Legion takes place in the future. Rampant overpopulation and overuse of Earths natural resources have regressed the planets ecosystem to a critical point. The governments of Earth enact the PEP - Planetary Evacuation Program - to vacate the world in vast colony ships, leaving the planet to heal. Sufficient room and resources to house the entire population was not guaranteed on these exodus ships, and only a select few were able to earn a place on the ships and jump into Hyperspace. In the centuries following the evacuation, much of Earths population perished, the scattered tribes of those left behind forming themselves into 7 Legions, all vying for control of what is left. As the game begins, the seventh generation of the Chosen - those descended from the evacuees - return and aim to conquer the planet for themselves.
On February 18, 2014, Tommo re-released the game on GOG.com, but without multiplayer. In a joint effort, Nintendo was going to help Epic MegaGames port the game to Nintendo 64, but this port did not come to release.
