In this vibrant episode of Comics That Influence, Kurt and Jake reunite post-IC3 comic con to showcase a trove of rare finds and long-lost gems. From $1 indie comics and NSFW underground oddities to experimental pop-up X-Men books and stylized manga, the duo dives deep into the artistic details, inking techniques, and storytelling quirks that make these books influential. Highlights include “Blood Brothers” for its gray-value style, “Scorpio Rose” from Eclipse, and early Moebius projects. Kurt shares personal tales like nearly working in Paris on an Arzak project, and both hosts reflect on influences from artists like Mark Beecham, Val Mayerik, and Carol Lay. Jake shares an art book haul of the X-Men Pop-up book, Joe Kubert's How to Draw Superheroes, and a collection Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD. They also explore adult-themed comics from Mansion Comics and Forbidden Fruit, marvel at Stan Lee’s how-to guides, and flip through the Apex Treasury of Underground Comics. The episode concludes with a sneak peek at Turbo Pit-fighter and excitement for more indie comic exploration.
