1887. Hadley, Missouri. More than two decades after the Civil War ended, its violence still festers beneath the soil of a divided border town. Former Confederate soldier Thomas Hale has spent twenty-four years haunted by the brutal death of his younger brother—a killing lost to the chaos of war and buried under uneasy peace. As Hale sets out to confront the men responsible, his pursuit of justice ignites long-dormant rivalries between former Union and Confederate families. The fragile balance holding Hadley together begins to fracture, and violence threatens to return with a vengeance.
