John Farley was the Chief Test Pilot for the Harrier at Hawker Siddeley and later British Aerospace and as such was quite literally one of the people that wrote the book for the aircraft.
Displaying the aircraft around the world throughout the 70's, no one demonstrated the Harrier in hovering flight quite like him.
One of his most famous tricks was the "Farley Take Off", where after a vertical take off, the aircraft was pitched upwards to a very high angle, whilst the nozzles were rotated to keep them pointing down towards the ground, accelerating to forward flight in a steep climb.
