Further to my last BTS video, here's how I colour graded the short film 'KERNOW', produced in partnership with Panasonic Lumix and Atomos, shot on the BGH1 & Ninja V, which now support ProRes RAW.
This was my first time working with ProRes RAW footage, and it was an absolute dream. As someone who is used to working with normal ProRes codecs as well as Panasonic V-Log, I was surprised how familiar it felt, being able to quickly convert the RAW footage to V-Log/V-Gamut directly in the settings of Final Cut Pro X. Now I'm looking forward to doing more experimentation and working directly with the RAW footage, to see what results I can get without doing the Log conversion. It will be interesting to see if it changes my color grading workflow. The BGH1 produces a beautifully cinematic image, it's an absolute beast paired up with Ninja V and has slotted straight into my setup. 12 bit ProRes RAW, what more could you ask for?
