This colorful Weevil of the genus Compsus in the family Curculionidae was filmed in the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador. Its iridescent scales are composed of so called photonic crystals which give rise to their beautiful colors by angle dependent interference of light analogous to the mineral opal.
