The Carnival starts on the Saturday before Ash Wednesday with the Battle of the Flowers (La Batalla de Flores), which is considered one of the main activities. During the Carnival, the Colombian People celebrate on Barranquilla street forming huge block parties where Baila La Calle is one of their biggest events in the city.
