🇧🇪➡️🇩🇪 COLOGNE CATHEDRAL 🇩🇪 | LIBBY’S 15TH BIRTHDAY & THE FINAL EUROPE VLOG! 🎂❤️
Welcome to the FINAL VLOG in our Europe Travel Series! 🌍✈️ And what better way to finish our European adventure than with a trip to the incredible city of Cologne, Germany, to celebrate Libby’s 15th birthday! 🎉🎂
Our final adventure begins back in Genk, Belgium 🇧🇪, where we give you a little tour of our apartment and show you where we’ve been staying before hitting the road and heading across the border into Germany.
🚗 ROAD TRIP TO COLOGNE 🇩🇪
We make our way towards Cologne, one of Germany’s most famous and historic cities. As we arrive, the incredible Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) immediately catches our attention. It’s absolutely enormous and completely dominates the city’s skyline!
⛪ COLOGNE CATHEDRAL – KÖLNER DOM
The cathedral is one of the most spectacular Gothic buildings in Europe and is a true masterpiece of medieval architecture.
Here are a few amazing facts about Cologne Cathedral:
🔹 Construction began in 1248, but the cathedral wasn’t finally completed until 1880 — more than 600 years later!
🔹 The cathedral stands around 157 metres (515 feet) tall, making it one of the tallest church buildings in the world.
🔹 It was once the tallest building in the world when it was completed in 1880!
🔹 Cologne Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognised for its outstanding architectural and historical importance.
🔹 The cathedral contains the famous Shrine of the Three Kings, which is traditionally said to hold the relics of the Biblical Three Wise Men.
🔹 Despite suffering significant damage during World War II, the cathedral survived and has undergone extensive restoration ever since.
🔹 The cathedral has two huge towers, which make it one of the most recognisable landmarks in Germany.
Standing underneath it really gives you an appreciation for just how huge and detailed this incredible building is! 😍⛪
🎂 CELEBRATING LIBBY’S 15TH BIRTHDAY!
After taking in the cathedral and exploring the city, it’s time to celebrate Libby’s 15th birthday! 🎉🥳 We head into Cologne for some lunch and, of course, no trip to Germany would be complete without trying a traditional German beer! 🍺🇩🇪
We take in the atmosphere of Cologne, explore the streets and enjoy some food and drinks before heading off to our next stop.
🍫 LINDT CHOCOLATE MUSEUM
And because every great day needs chocolate… 🍫😍 we visit the Lindt Chocolate Museum!
The museum takes you through the fascinating history of chocolate, from its origins and production to how modern chocolate is made. And yes… there’s plenty of chocolate involved! 🤤🍫
It’s the perfect way to round off our day in Cologne before bringing our European adventure to an end.
