Collotheca doesn't chase its food. It stays in one spot, holding open a wide funnel ringed with long, fine cilia. The cilia stir the water into a slow current, and when something small drifts close enough, the whole funnel closes around it.

Part of a weekly series of short portraits of the living things too small to see. A few quiet minutes with one organism, and nothing else. Today, Collotheca.
