This is video that was shot a long while ago and in it I pay close attention to explaining some of my methods when cold winter camping. I explain some of my techniques with the bow drill friction fire, long fire and super shelter. It was 19-22 degrees this day and my super shelter build created a beautiful 70 degree environment that kept toasty warm all night long. I went out with my pack and sleeping bag but I wanted to see if I could do this without using everything within my pack. I was prepared in that I had my fire kit and essentials but I wanted to test my skills and not use them unless I absolutely had to. My bow drill friction fire seems to come easily on this frigged day but believe me it is not as easy as it seems, I have practiced this many times. The super shelter is made by simply taking a Mylar space blanket and tying it to the back of my lean-to then draping clear plastic down the front. Keep your fire 4-5 feet away from your shelter. The long fire is simply big logs held in place with stakes and kindling in the middle. Some techniques with this us one or two green logs to allow the fire to burn even longer but I just use dead standing. The fire lasted nearly all night. I hope in this long over night video I have inspired you to go out and practice your skills in cold weather environment too. Be sure to always be prepared when you go and have fun out there.
