More CoD:WWII recording session phone cam footage, this time showing an effect with strings that I used in the main theme. It's a little buried in the mix, but this is how we got that "marching percussion" sound when the CoD theme kicks in.
Basically we handed out a buncha wooden dowels to the players, and everyone chose to either slap the string with the dowel, slap with their pencil, or just use their hand on the body of the instrument. I reused this technique in a bunch of different cues throughout the score, as a way to get interesting percussive sounds without using more typical elements like snare drums and such.
