Trying out a LV1 run of Code Vein. This game is so much fun. Sekiro scratched the simple but elegant combat of swords clashing, balancing R1 spamming and timely L1 deflects with dodges and jumps thrown for special attacks. The combat arts though felt lacking in that either they were too powerful, or far too niche to ever have it equipped.
This game has combat arts be basically your main form of combat. I don't get to showcase too much here as this is the beginning of the game. You have things called gifts. The active ones you see me using on the bottom right. You can equip up to 8 at a time and there are a ton in the game (about a hundred I'd say?). Some are buffs and some are offensive. I used a poison buff, straight attack buff, and a buff that increases damage over successive hits. The combat gift is a teleport and double slash, really useful for closing gaps while doing some extra damage.
As I get further you'll see a lot more of these gifts in action.
