Three years after Miguel Rivera risked everything to bring harmony back to his family, he's now a teenager who's been filling the streets of Santa Cecilia with his music. But on the eve of an important audition, Miguel's dreams are threatened when Ernesto de la Cruz, the fallen idol who won't stay forgotten, returns for a vengeful encore. Miguel travels back to the Land of the Dead to reclaim the one thing he cannot live without, and learns that this time, it will take more than a song to save what matters most.
Benjamin Bratt took the stage himself to confirm his return as Ernesto, joking, "To some, Miguel is a little menace who ruined a career and destroyed a legacy. Ernesto de la Cruz is back for revenge, sending Miguel on an adventure back to the Land of the Dead. Proving fate has a sense of humor, Miguel must team up with a handsome superstar: me." So yes, Miguel and Ernesto really will be forced to work together this time around, even after everything that happened between them.
