The Cobequid Pass opened on November 15, 1997. It was built to bypass Trunk Highway 4, a two-lane uncontrolled-access road. It is the only toll highway in Nova Scotia and stretches 45km between Masstown (Exit 12) and Thomson Station (Exit 7).
The highway is known for its adverse and unpredictable weather. It is often blanketed in fog throughout the winter, and here is an example of how bad it can get. Beginning around 3:45, you can how the thickness of the fog increases.
