The Unites States Coast Guard has released the following video and statement:
"A Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew medevaced a 47-year-old female off a cruise ship approximately 115 miles northeast of Cape Henry, Friday.
The captain of the cruise ship Norwegian Jewel contacted Coast Guard watchstanders at approximately 5 p.m. reporting they had a woman with abdominal pains who was in need of medical attention.
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C. were dispatched to the scene.
The helicopter crew hoisted the woman and her husband off the cruise ship at approximately 7 p.m.
"It is always good when hard work and preparation come together in a successful mission," said Lt. Nicholas Hazlett, the co-pilot of the rescue helicopter. "This was a combined effort of the MH-60 and HC-130 to complete this medevac. The coordination from Sector Hampton Roads and District Five were noteworthy in executing this successful mission. Additionally, the Norwegian Jewel's preparation in receiving the hoist was paramount in orchestrating a swift rescue."
The passenger was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
