Hello my name is Sarah Graves. And I'm with the International Coach Federation, Oregon Charter Chapter. Today I'm going to tell you the difference between coaching and therapy.

First of all, therapy is an important component and choice of a well examined life. I've had therapy over the years and highly recommend it.

I'm going to share my favorite answer to this question from doctor Cal. He's a vital member and volunteer of the ICF Oregon Chapter. Therapy helps you discover and understand how you got to where you are. And coaching meets you where you are right now and takes you where you want to go, or where you want to be. Coaching's foundation comes from several different disciplines, including psychology. And the benefits of private safe conversation. However, coaching is not unpacking and fixing your past, your deepest hurts or your wounds for healing. Coaching is a one on one conversation. And a coach holds the client as whole, resourceful, capable and creative, right where they are. No fixing necessary.

There is the opportunity to find a new perspective, a new thought already residing within the client that through the coaching process gets revealed and reflected. With this fresh perspective and awareness, the client creates forward progress through actions and thus desired results.
