The Danish Coastal Authority (DCA) is performing a national flood risk assessment to assist local Danish municipalities who are responsible for climate adaptation of coastal areas. For this, reliable flood models are needed to better protect citizens against flooding.
The DCA, in cooperation with Deltares, has applied a new approach to modelling complex coastlines for large areas (SFINCS). It provides a realistic flood assessment on a national scale within a feasible timeframe. We jointly set up the new approach on the basis of co-creation, that enables the DCA to carry out the final national flood risk assessment themselves. In this way, we are working together to protect citizens better against flooding. This way of working is key to our mission-driven way of working.
