Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has announced a major set of welfare and infrastructure decisions. The government will provide three free LPG cylinders annually to eligible families, expand free bus travel for women, and drop the proposed Parandur greenfield airport project.
The announcements are being positioned as measures to reduce household expenses, improve women’s mobility and protect agricultural livelihoods. The Parandur decision, however, is also triggering debate over Tamil Nadu’s future airport and infrastructure needs.
